Our guest speakers were Yvonne Buys and Terry Sprague, two of the three authors of the terrific new book “Look What Flew Through The County.” Terry is a writer and well known long time County resident, who is also a proficient bird watcher. Yvonne, a retired Professor and ophthalmologist, is relatively new to “birding.” She said one of the reasons she wanted to produce the book is because she found the standard field guide to bird watching overwhelming for a beginner.
Reporting to you on this book is one of those times when a picture really is worth a thousand words. Just drop into Books & Company and have a look. The images are all photographs, no drawings. Twenty seven County photographers contributed to this book.
The book runs to 229 pages and is divided into six sections: Year-Round Residents, Summer Breeders, Migrants – just flying through, Winter Visitors, Rarities, and Vagrants. And what, you might ask, are Vagrants? Well, these are birds. that are far removed from their normal range and should not be here. In other words, they did not read the book! (Think Ring-necked Pheasant, Pacific Loon or Brown Pelican.)
Yvonne and Terry brought a case of the books and sold copies to our members. Sales were brisk!
