Columnist Robin Baranyai, who works with PEC Syria, was our guest speaker on Oct 7 and she was introduced by Past President Nancy Griffin.

Robin provided a presentation about PEC Syria starting with its formation in 2015 to help the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Prince Edward County. PEC Syria was founded by Carolyn Moulton; Robin was an original Board member. Robin provided a video that showed the initial start of the organization and some of the families that have been helped.

Over the past 10 years, PEC Syria has resettled 95 refugees across 10 family groups in the region. This includes well known business personalities like Papa Ghanoush & Momma Hummus and Nasr’s Falafel. There have also been 10 children born to the families in Canada with 5 more on the way.

Robin recounted the progress that the children have made since coming to Canada. Education has been of great importance for the families and is now supported by PEC Syria Education Fund established by The County Foundation.
