March is Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Month, and we’re celebrating our commitment to create healthier communities by supplying clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Here is a summary of related projects that our local club is engaged in or provides financial support for:
- Sewing Day - EPIC Rotary Event: This is a special Rotary organized event on Mar 17 for sewing re-usable menstrual pads for the teenage girls in the Dominican Republic. These hygiene kits will be delivered to girls in the Dominican Republic, ensuring they have access to essential supplies that help them stay in school and thrive.
- ECOroller 70-Litre Device: This is a specialized tool designed to alleviate the physical burden of water collection in water-stressed areas such as South Africa. It allows users to roll a durable plastic barrel along the ground using a sturdy steel handle. It carries nearly four times more water than a standard bucket, significantly reducing the number of trips and preventing long-term physical injuries to the spine and neck. The Rolling Water Foundation is the organization behind this innovation.
- Adopt-A-Village Laos: Video of recent projects to deliver water and water filters and schools and sanitary napkins to help keep girls in school for various remote villages of impoverished Laos, all part of Adopt A Village Laos. The program is led by Steve Rutledge, member of Rotary Club of Whitby, Ontario, with support from Rotary clubs throughout Canada. https://youtu.be/9Rp2QT6YtUU?si=KN69H9oyNuc-Dm7g
- Water Filter Program: Organized by the Rotary Club of Puerto Vallarta Sur. Pails with filters are distributed to the inhabitants of local villages.
