Waterfalls of Prince Edward County - Easter Weekend
Our Annual "Waterfalls Tour" event is our fundraiser for water projects in the world. Since 2006, we have had thousands of people visit the two waterfalls and we are proud to have been able to raise well over $100,000 for Rotary projects so far.
Don't miss this outdoor family event where you can see the spring runoff on waterfalls normally inaccessible to the public. Both waterfalls can be viewed on the same day and cash donations will be gratefully accepted by Rotary volunteers on-site. See the information below for locations and general information, and use your GPS to plan your route to get there.
If we have an event in 2027, it will be held on March 27 & 28 (Easter Weekend), from 11 am to 4 pm each day.
This is a 'rain or shine' event so please dress accordingly. Rubber boots or waterproof footwear is highly recommended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I buy a ticket or register in advance?
When you arrive at each location, volunteers will be on site to register your group and we gladly accept cash donations. Therefore it is not necessary to buy a ticket or to pay anything in advance. If you're not planning to attend but would like to make a donation, you will see a Donate button at the top of this page.
Where do I park?
Jackson Falls - You can park along the roadside and walk to the registration area. Please be careful of traffic along County Rd 17 and do not park in front of the Jackson's Falls Inn as that area is reserved for their patrons.
Cape Vesey - There is a reserved parking area and volunteers will direct you to a spot.
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are allowed provided they are on a leash and are well behaved. We also ask that you pick up after your dog.
How accessible are the falls?
The viewing area for the falls must be accessed on foot and would be difficult for anyone who requires mobility aids. There is a fairly steep laneway that goes directly to the base of the falls. It is no more than a 10 minute walk to reach the falls.
Can I take pictures?
We encourage you to take pictures and videos and to enjoy the view of the falls BUT we ask that you do not go into the water to do so. The stones under the water are slippery and potentially dangerous. Likewise, we ask parents to keep their children out of the water.
Are there washrooms available on site?
There are two portable toilets set up at each location.
Is transportation provided?
This is a self-guided tour so you are responsible for your own transportation to each site.
I can't be there on Easter weekend. Can I view the falls at another time?
This is an exclusive two day event that happens only on Easter weekend. The land is privately owned and the owners give our Rotary club special permission to hold this event. The volume of water going over the falls is greatest during the spring run-off and the water tends to dry up by mid to late summer. Please do not attempt to visit the falls at any other time.
Where does the water for the falls come from?
The falls are most active during the spring run-off as a result of melting snow and spring showers; the water drains from the surrounding farmland. Jackson Falls drains into Black River; Cape Vesey Falls drains into Prince Edward Bay.
How long has Picton Rotary been sponsoring this event?
Since 2006, thousands of people have been able to enjoy the Waterfalls Tour. We have anywhere from 2500 to 3500 visitors at each falls each year, depending on the weather.
What kind of projects does Rotary support with the proceeds from this event?
Rotary has seven area of focus. One of those areas is clean water access, and another closely related area is disease prevention. Picton Rotary has been supporting these types of projects in Mexico, Africa, and Laos. For a full list of projects and more details, go to Who We Support at https://pictonrotary.ca.
